The Muskateller Smaragd 2025 is the finest expression of the Muskateller at Weingut Schwaiger in Wösendorf, and ranks amongst the elite of the Wachau. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand in mid-October, when they have reached full physiological ripeness, from carefully selected vineyards around Wösendorf. The interplay of warm days, cool nights and mineral-rich primary rock soil comprising paragneiss, loam and loess results in intense aromas and lively freshness. Following maceration and gentle pressing, the must ferments under temperature-controlled conditions in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine rests on its fine lees for several months, resulting in complexity and a creamy texture.
In the glass, the Muskateller Smaragd displays a beautiful, clear colour. The nose is delightfully fruity and fragrant, with subtle notes of nutmeg and oriental spices. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet elegant, with a delicate minerality, harmonious acidity and a long, radiant finish featuring ripe peach and orange notes. Ageing on the lees adds extra depth and a soft, creamy texture that sets the Muskateller apart from simpler styles.
Thanks to its powerful aromas and elegant structure, the Muskateller Smaragd pairs excellently with Asian dishes, spicy cuisine, seafood, mature cheeses and aromatic starters. It also makes a superb accompaniment to lightly spiced lamb or poultry dishes.
