Arbin "La Saxicole" comes from one of the best terroirs of the cru Arbin, on a steep, south-exposed slope composed almost entirely of rocky, argillo-limestone rubble. Here, the native Mondeuse achieves exceptional concentration and ripeness. The name "Saxicole" refers to plants growing on rocks - a perfect metaphor for this extreme, stony vineyard that gives the wine its powerful, mineral character.
The wine is made from 100% Mondeuse, harvested by hand and fully destemmed. A long maceration of 2-3 weeks at controlled temperature preserves the aromatic finesse, while during vinification continuous adjustments are made to flavour and balance to maximise the expression of Mondeuse. Maturation lasts one year in oak barrels, which adds extra depth and structure without losing freshness.
In the glass, La Saxicole shows a deep raspberry-red colour with mauve hues. The nose is powerful with aromas of small black fruits, nutmeg and liquorice. On the palate, the tannins are firm but elegant, indicating a nice storage potential. The wine combines power with precision and develops additional complexity with age.
