Soave Duello is the flagship wine of Zambon Vulcano, a cru that embodies the essence of the volcanic terroir of Monte Duello in Roncà. This particular hill, which rises like a lava tongue between the Valdalpone and the ancient volcanoes of Roncà, offers a unique soil full of basalt, in which the Garganega grape deeply anchors its roots. It is precisely here, on the south-facing slopes between 100 and 200 metres above sea level, that this characterful Soave comes to life.
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-October using the traditional Veronese pergola system, with a remarkably low yield of just 40 quintals per hectare. Vinification takes place in two stages, tailored to the location of the plots. The grapes from the lower part of the hill undergo a long maceration and are fermented in stainless steel, while those from the higher part are vinified in concrete tanks after a shorter 48-hour skin soak. These two base wines are then blended together and then left to mature on their own yeasts for as much as two years, resulting in complexity, depth and texture.
The result is a Soave with a distinct character of its own: a purely volcanic profile, carried by lively acidity (6.5 g/l), elegant freshness (pH 3.15) and subtle spiciness that comes together in a wine of remarkable length and intensity. Soave Duello is more than a white wine - it is an expression of land, time and craftsmanship, born of basalt and inspiration. Ideally served at cellar temperature to bring out all the layering.
