The 2022 Spätburgunder trocken is an elegant and refined red wine from twenty-five-year-old vines rooted in loess loam on Muschel lime. This calcareous soil gives the wine its distinctive freshness, structure and fine minerality. Only the best Spätburgunder grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected for harmonious ripeness. Pre-soaking and 18 days of skin contact are followed by gentle pressing and 18-month ageing in new 500-litre oak barrels. This approach gives the wine its depth, subtlety and long-lasting elegance.
In the glass, the Spätburgunder shows a brilliant ruby red colour. The bouquet is delicate, fruity and slightly spicy, with aromas of cherry, cranberry and blueberry, delicately complemented by smoky notes of cedar and a hint of orange peel. These aromas paint the picture of a Spätburgunder that is both classic and modern: refined in expression, but with enough power to hold the attention. The wood aging is subtly interwoven, enhancing the aromatic depth without dominating.
On the tongue, the wine opens with juicy, fresh fruit notes supported by silky tannins and a lively, inviting structure. The balance between freshness and subtlety makes this Spätburgunder a charming and versatile food wine. It pairs excellently with poultry, light game, mushroom risotto, grilled vegetables and soft cheeses.
