Saint-Joseph Blanc "Les Grands Ducs" 2024 comes from a special, high-altitude plot above the Vieux Rhône, in the middle of the forests near Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf. This plot was self-created by Laurent Merlin on former forest land - an intensive project that took shape over 13 years. The eastern exposure and cool microclimate of river, dam and forest edge ensure slow, even ripening and a striking freshness in the wine. On the chalky, argillo-limestone soils, Marsanne and Roussanne get their refined tension and aromatic precision.
The blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne is hand-harvested in small cases and cold-pressed to preserve aromatic purity. After gentle clarification, the wine matures for 11 months in 220 L tonneaux and TAVA amphorae. Vinification and bottling under nitrogen limit sulphite addition and keep expression pure, while texture and complexity develop quietly.
In the glass, "Les Grands Ducs" opens with expressive aromas of lime blossom, stewing pear and almond. The mouth is full and layered, with a fresh, mineral finish that elegantly balances the ripe fruit notes. A precise, gourmet Saint-Joseph Blanc with instant charm and lovely ageing potential.
