Perle de Rosé d'Avril is Vignobles Mallard's iconic sweet rosé and has been made since 1959. This cuvée grew to become the emblem of the estate and symbolises their idiosyncratic daring to create something unique in Bordeaux. The vineyards are on gravel soils, which provides freshness and a fine tension that nicely balances the sweet character.
The wine is made from 100% Merlot. Cold peeling is followed by gentle pressing, fermentation and then ageing sur lie for extra roundness and texture. The ageing is done in stainless steel and concrete cuves, so the fruit and freshness remain central and the sweetness never becomes unwieldy.
In the glass, the wine seduces with a bouquet of red berries and dried apricot. On the palate, it is silky and beautifully balanced: generous but refined, with a supple texture and fresh lift. A surprisingly versatile sweet rosé that can also be used gastronomically.
