The Pinot Noir ‘Basis’ is the entry-level wine in Enderle & Moll’s red range, but in Baden that means something quite different from elsewhere. This is no simplistic wine: it is made from younger vines from various plots, but with the same philosophy as its ‘big brothers’. No pumping over, no racking, no filtration.
In the glass, the Basis 2022 displays a bright, light cherry-red colour. The nose is fruity and approachable: red berries, bright cherries, flowers, a hint of blackcurrants, fleshy notes, juniper and bay leaf. On the palate, it is slender and cool, juicy and fresh, with lively acidity and youthful, soft tannins. Cassis on the palate, herbaceous nuances and a slightly dark, ethereal spiciness. A hint of celery salt gives it its peculiarly appealing character. A fresh, juicy finish with a bit of bite.
An appealing everyday red wine that pairs well with cold meats, light pasta dishes, pizza or a simple grilled chicken. Serve at 14–16°C, perhaps slightly chilled.
