Perticaia's Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG is an impressive red wine that is among Umbria's most characterful and powerful expressions. Made from 100% Sagrantino, an indigenous grape with exceptional structure and storage potential, this wine showcases the true terroir of Montefalco. The grapes are harvested manually and rigorously selected in the vineyard, usually in October, to use only the best bunches. A lengthy 30-day maceration under controlled temperature is followed by a 24- to 36-month ageing in large wooden barrels and French barriques. Finally, the wine matures for another year in bottle for optimal refinement.
In the glass, it shows deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose opens with aromas of ripe wild blueberries, black pepper and earthy notes of autumn forest, subtly rounded off with a hint of smoke. On the palate, the wine is rich and powerful, with an elegant structure, velvety tannins and a long, consistent finish. This wine is a natural companion to grilled meat with a high fat content, game, stews and truffle preparations.
Thanks to its complexity and solid build, this Montefalco Sagrantino is made for the long haul and can age effortlessly for 20 to 25 years. Serve at 18°C to bring out its full character.
