Viv Winery's Ombra Lunga is an ode to lightness and drinking pleasure - a red wine that deliberately breaks with tradition. Where many wines from Monferrato seek power and structure, this cuvée instead opts for freshness, suppleness and accessibility. Born from the desire to enjoy red even on hot days, this is a wine that invites relaxed moments and long tables.
The wine is made from a blend of Barbera and Dolcetto, sourced from north-facing vineyards with heavy clay soils. Everything is done by hand and according to organic principles. An initial 15-day maceration is followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Unique is the additional maceration a year later on the skins of the new harvest (a kind of "ripasso"), which provides extra depth without losing freshness. The wine remains unfiltered and pure, with minimal intervention.
In the glass, Ombra Lunga shows vivid ruby red with purple hues. Aromas of plum, blackberry and black cherry dominate, supported by fresh acidity and soft tannins. The result is a juicy, thirst-quenching red wine that feels nimble and energetic. Serve it classically or lightly chilled - this is red at its most refreshing.
