The 2022 Chardonnay Reserve trocken is among Wein & Sektgut Hirschmüller's most refined wines. It comes from their oldest Chardonnay vineyard, planted with French clones from Burgundy. The vines root deeply in loess loam on Muschel limestone, a combination that creates tension, minerality and elegant ripeness. After extremely careful manual selection, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in a 500-litre oak barrel. The subsequent twenty-four-month ageing on the lie in the same barrel lends the wine a special depth, creamy texture and distinctive reserve style.
On the nose, this Chardonnay shows a refined and layered bouquet with aromas of apricot, pear, honeydew melon, fresh meadow herbs and a subtle touch of vanilla. The clones' Burgundian origins are evident in the elegance of its aromatic profile, in which fruit and wood blend beautifully. The whole is supported by a chalky freshness characteristic of the Muschelk lime soil.
On the palette, the wine opens mineral and lively, followed by soft fruit notes and a fine, creamy texture. The elegant acidity gives structure and tension, while the long ageing gives it a refined roundness. The finish is long, harmonious and inviting, exactly what makes this wine Wiebke's favourite. The 2022 Chardonnay Reserve is a wonderful companion to dishes such as roasted fish, creamy risotto, poultry or refined vegetarian cuisine. A wine with class, precision and an impressive signature.
