Product description
The 2023 Merlot from Wein & Sektgut Hirschmüller is a powerful and modern red wine from loess loam on Muschel limestone, a soil that gives its wines a characteristic freshness and structure. The grapes are grown organically and gently pressed after 16 days of traditional peel fermentation, after which the young wine matures for 12 months in a 500-litre oak barrel. This method creates a harmonious balance between fruit intensity, structure and subtle wood tones.
In the glass, the Merlot shines with a deep dark colour. The aroma is immediately inviting, with aromas of wild cherry and dark forest fruits, complemented by spicy and slightly smoky accents. This combination gives the wine a warm, layered and international-looking bouquet, typical of Merlot when grown on chalky soils. The aromas promise a wine with juicy depth and refinement.
On the palette, the wine presents itself full-bodied, juicy and fruit-driven, with ripe berry aromas, fresh vibrancy and powerful but soft-feeling tannins. The structure is energetic and inviting, making this Merlot shine both solo and at the table. It pairs excellently with grilled red meat, stewed dishes, pasta with rich sauces and hard cheeses. The 2023 Merlot is a seductive, modern red wine of international stature that effortlessly combines pleasure and depth.
