Château de Durette's Morgon 'Les Charmes' is a characterful cru from the Beaujolais, sourced from sixty-year-old Gamay vines on the famous lieu-dit 'Les Charmes'. This vineyard, with its decomposed granite and schists composition, produces a wine with distinct personality and finesse. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and largely destemmed for a controlled vinification in stainless steel tanks, expressing the terroir to the full.
In the glass, this wine shows with a deep ruby colour. The bouquet offers an elegant combination of ripe cherries and subtle notes of liquorice. The palate is structured and balanced, with silky tannins providing a soft mouth texture. The finish is long, delicate and refined, making this Morgon one of the region's most typical and beloved crus.
This wine is best at a serving temperature of 15 to 16°C and is an excellent companion to meat dishes with sauce or game in a spicy preparation, such as a classic stew or a venison ragout with pepper sauce. Thanks to its structure and elegance, it is also suitable for several years of aging in the cellar.
