Camminata embodies the fleeting spirit of experimentation and the pursuit of uncharted heights. Umbria is a vast wine-growing region, home to classic grape varieties and wine styles, yet also receptive to grapes from elsewhere. Driven by a love of a challenge, the Ruffo della Scaletta family ventured to plant Merlot – an unexpected choice at the time – from which this wine is born.
The careful selection of the finest grapes from the vineyard, fermentation without the addition of yeast cultures, maceration on the skins and annual ageing result in a red wine that is flavourful, harmonious and pleasant. This is not merely an experiment but a welcome and stylish addition to the Ruffo della Scaletta portfolio. In the glass, Camminata displays an intense and brilliant ruby red colour. The nose reveals intriguing aromas of red fruit and red forest berries, complemented by subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is coherent, full-bodied and delicately spiced. The structure is strong and pronounced, yet not overpowering.
This is an accessible yet substantial red wine for all occasions. It is perfectly at home with simple starters such as classic cold cuts or mature cheeses, and pairs beautifully with meat sauces and grilled meats.
