Fontegalli from Fattoria Lavacchio is an exceptional cuvée that stands out as the estate's only red wine label without Sangiovese. This prestigious blend of Merlot and Syrah comes from old vineyards at 450 metres altitude in Rufina, where the chalky clay soils and microclimate create wines of great intensity and complexity. Production is limited to just 2,500 bottles a year, making Fontegalli an exclusive and sought-after wine.
After the manual harvest in late September, the grapes undergo fermentation and maceration in wooden vats at controlled temperature, followed by careful ageing: 24 months in 500-litre oak barrels for the Merlot and in ceramic amphorae for the Syrah. The wine then rests in bottle for at least another 12 months. The result is a wine with a deep purple colour and nuances of violet. The bouquet is intense and persistent, with aromas of blackberries and blueberries.
On the palate, Fontegalli is rich and complex, with concentrated fruit notes, supported by hints of vanilla and cedar. The structure is powerful and elegant at the same time, with a long and persistent finish. This wine is ideally suited to ageing and comes brilliantly with roasted red meat, game dishes and aged cheeses, but also perfectly complements rich pasta dishes. Serve at 18-20 °C to experience its full potential.
