Vigna Casanova from Fattoria Lavacchio is an exceptional Chianti Rufina, made entirely from Sangiovese. Planted in 1963 at an altitude of 450 metres, the vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate thanks to its chalky clay soil, western exposure and constant ventilation. Only about 2,000 bottles a year leave the cellar, making this an exclusive wine for lovers of authenticity.
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully vinified. After fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for 24 months in large oak barrels from the Montagna Fiorentina and then at least another six months in bottle. The result is an elegant, structured wine with a ruby red colour and refined aromas of cherries, cocoa and spices.
On the palate, Vigna Casanova is powerful yet refined, with soft tannins, a mineral touch and a long, lingering finish. This wine is ideal with a classic bistecca alla fiorentina, game dishes, risotto or mature cheeses, and is best served at 18-20 °C in spacious glasses.
